Listening - - Haiku by Yusa

For those of you who still only think of Cuban music as being performed by the Buena Vista Social Club, or others of that generation, Haiku by Yusa will be a revelation.

Think Cuban sultry marries Brazilian samba.

Yusa's sound is unique, melodic and quite unforgettable.

Lancome Oscillation PowerMascara. Available Thursday for ONE DAY ONLY!

Lâncome is launching a new vibrating mascara. Yes, vibrating. Powered by 7,000 oscillations per minute, the vibrating motion of the wand gets every lash evenly covered while creating serious lash separation and definition.

The Lâncome Ôscillation PowerMascara ($34) doesn't hit stores until December, but on July 31st (that's this Thursday!), for ONE DAY ONLY, Sephora will offer it online.

This mascara won't be available in stores, and after July 31st, poof! It won't be available anywhere again until late fall. In other words, get it while it's hot.

And in case you're curious, here's how it works:

1. Press the button on the wand to activate the vibration

2. Hold the button during application

3. Place the wand at the root of your lash line and comb wand slowly from root to tip

4. Use about 2-3 strokes for a natural look, or glam it up with a few more coats

Who's your long, skinny neighbor?

Who's your long, skinny neighbor?

While it's the beach life in Brazil and the finer things in Argentina that seem to get all the attention, allow us to direct your attention just a little west — to Chile. It's got wines to rival Argentina's, and while it may not have Brazilian bathing beauties, you'll see no shortage of natural beauty.

We've chosen three destinations you won't want to miss. First stop: Valparaiso. A glimpse into the soul of Chile, this old-fashioned port still feels lost in the 1930s. Check into ZeroHotel and head down to Muelle Prat. From there, it's north to the Atacama desert, one of the world's driest and most surreal places. The Atacama desert has been used in movies filming scenes from Mars but is also home to the village oasis, San Pedro de Atacama. Awasi will set you up with a nice place to sleep after all the desert exploration and nightime stargazing trips. As spring approaches, and Patagonia thaws out, you can set up your base camp at Indigo, in Puerto Natales, or at Remota, on the edge of the Torres del Paine national park. Happy traveling!

The New York International Latino Film Festival (NYILFF) is here and you can’t miss the extravagant list of films, panel discussions and events that will take place in La Gran Manzana. A Chill Evening with DailyCandy--TONIGHT!

Daily Candy's language speaks for itself.

Whether it's to express the inexpressible or just to be witty, everyone makes up words every once in a while. The ladies over at DailyCandy do it more than most, having coined the elaborate neologisms "fabric-cation" (impulsively lying about your dress size to salesgirls), "drimming" (drunk instant messaging), and "whore d'oeuvre" (one who puts out before dinner). Tonight, the online lifestyle guide celebrates the publication of The DailyCandy Lexicon: Words That Don't Exist but Should with NYC editor Jeralyn Gerba, plenty of drinks and snacks, and ample opportunities to mingle. Yes, yes, I know it's obvious. We have a thing for Miami today. Perhaps it is because we will be landing there shortly.

Dinner and a movie gets an upgrade with the opening of the extravagant Cinébistro at the Dolphin Mall. Merge your love of flicks and food at Miami's first movie theater-restaurant combo featuring a full bar and lounge-like, Philippe Starck-designed dining room. Settle into the screening room's high-back leather rocking chairs and feast on gourmet tapas-style eats like tuna ceviche with coconut and crisped shallots, Cobb salad with lime-cumin dressing and grilled skirt steak. Movie tix are $15, including comp valet service.

Raising the Bar on Paella!

(Photo: Zach Desart)
Socarrat Paella Bar, named for that delectable crust that forms on the bottom of a paella pan, is the second restaurant venture of Jesus Manso, who also owns La Nacional at the Spanish Benevolent Society. Like that expat hangout, this 24-seat nook specializes in traditional tapas like gambas al ajillo and patatas bravas, and for the entrées, chef Felipe Camarillo, late of Suba and Marichu, focuses largely on paellas and fideuas, which substitute Spanish noodles for rice. Communal-table and bar seating are meant to evoke Sunday dinner at a friend’s house, if that friend’s abode was designed by the team responsible for the looks of Allen & Delancey and Elettaria.

Casa Tua - MIAMI

Casa Tua in Miami

Who: Eva Mendes, Motley Crue, Marissa Tomei, Jennifer Lopez, James Caan, George Hamilton and Sting....

What: An elite hotspot that feels just like home-- if you live inside a Ralph Lauren ad...

When: Two weeks ahead of time for a reservation....

Where: 1700 James Ave Miami Beach FL 33139 Miami, Florida 33139 305.673.1010

Why: Discreetly tucked away in a Mediterranean style villa hidden by palms and lush tropical foliage, Casa Tua is easily one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. The idea behind Casa Tua is to make you feel at home. After all with a name meaning “your home,” this feat is definitely accomplished. The welcoming dining areas include a radiant outdoor garden, comfy Ralph Lauren-esque living room, and a communal eat-in kitchen. Original art hangs everywhere and changes by the month, so guests that frequent Casa Tua are always in for a new surprise. What used to be a fabulous lounge upstairs is now a members-only club. The upstairs club has been Miami’s stomping ground for insiders and privileged members who are able to relax and unwind before an award-winning meal. Casa Tua is on the down-low, they don’t advertise, and there’s no signage on the restaurant, their forbidden-fruit-mystique adds to the exclusivity.
Casa Tua is also known for their Italian-sophisticated cuisine. The service is seamless and relaxed and adds to the home-spun ambiance. Casa Tua offers peaceful intermission from the constant bustle of South Beach. Casa Tua is not about trend, but more about a lifestyle, which sets it apart from other South Beach hot spots.

Picnic time, CN style

Source: The Strong Buzz

Enjoy the finest cuisine and the best out door dining all summer long. Its PICNIC time hermanas.
Not to be too much of a gourmand, but a shriveled, charred hot dog and some warm soda in Riverside Park no longer matches my lifestyle. My tastes now run away from Oscar Meyer and toward Saul Zabar. Well lucky for us, Zabar's has the perfect picnic solution with a true New York twist….a take-out picnic basket. Our favorite foodie, Andrea Strong, sings the praises of this summer time offering. Pair a Zabar picnic basket with your favorite wine - if it’s a white make sure to pack it in a cooler - and head to the Great Lawn for a great summer meal.
Grab a Zabar’s Picnic to Go!

Zabar’s has your answer. (Don’t they always?) They’ve got a delicious selection of picnic options ready to go; all are $21.98 per person and include cutlery, napkins, side salads like Cole Slaw, Cucumber Salad, Potato Salad, Tabouli and Cous-Cous, and are packed in a signature Zabar’s mini-tote. Your choices include:
Zabar’s Sandwich Picnic - Choice of a Zabar’s sandwich, a side salad, soda or water, an apple and a brownie.Bagel and Nova Picnic - Nova Scotia Salmon with cream cheese on a bagel or pumpernickel bread; a half pint of fresh squeezed orange juice, water or soda; an apple and mini black and white cookies.
Zabar’s Picnic Salad - A Zabar’s salad, a French roll, a soda or water, an apple and a brownie.
Roast Chicken Picnic - A quarter roast chicken or a rotisserie Cornish hen, a side salad, a French roll, a water or a soda, an apple and a brownie.

A Riverbank Picnic - An assortment of Zabar’s cheese (brie and goat cheese), a French roll, dried fruits and nuts, an apple, a water or a soda and a chocolate croissant.
