With the ink barely dry on her new contract with Lancôme, Dominican modeling phenom Arlenis Sosa continues to rack up acclaim. Only in the biz since April, the 19-year-old made her grand entrée into the editorial world as one of the lucky few catwalkers cast for Italian Vogue’s historic all-black issue and can already count Anna Wintour and makeup artist Pat McGrath as fans. Yesterday, she officially added muse to her growing list of attributes, opening and closing the Oscar de la Renta show. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage at the Met with the rhythm of Compañia Flamenco de Madrid, a company of singers, dancers, and instrumentalists that is one of Spain's premier flamenco ensembles. This joyful celebration of folkloric music and dance will take place in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium on Thursday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets: $50. You can take turns whacking a piñata at 7pm and 9pm (and win the traditional candy inside!), and then have tapas Chorizo y Gambas, Albondigas and a Tapas Surprisa with a glass of sangria for $28 per person.
SUSHISAMBA pays homage to its culinary heritage on Sunday by hosting a celebration to mark Brazil’s Independence Day. Both New York restaurant locations (SUSHISAMBA Park at 245 Park Avenue South, 212.475.9377; SUSHISAMBA 7 at 87 Seventh Avenue South, 212.691.7885) will feature an evening of samba and capoeira (a 400-year old Brazilian dance that incorporates martial arts) dancers along with Brazilian drummers in live shows. Chefs will also serve a special menu of cocktails, sushi rolls, and traditional Brazilian dishes. The entertainment kicks off at SUSHISAMBA Park at 7 pm and SUSHISAMBA 7 at 8 pm and 9 pm.
